"We know that love is not just something we feel, it is something we do. It is patient when the days are long and tempers are short. It is kind when we are tired or misunderstood. It refuses to keep score or to let pride take the lead. This kind of love, steady, enduring, and resilient is what makes marriage not only beautiful but lasting. And you know well that love is not merely a feeling that happens to you, but a choice you make daily, sometimes perhaps even hourly.  

As you vow now to continue walking together, we all pray with you that you will have the patience and mutual understanding to choose love again and again, not only when it is easy on what we might call the mountain tops of joy and exhilaration, but also when it is hard in those valleys and dark places of difficulty and doubt. But remember the psalm that we heard and to which we together responded. That psalm speaks of everyday blessings that accompany love when it is rooted in faithfulness.  It speaks of the work of your hands. We can think of the joyful meals that will be shared at your table, of a home filled with peace. These are not grandiose promises, but real joys that come from living a life of generosity and care in the ordinary rhythm of married life.  Doing household chores, paying the bills, raising children, sharing each other stories. At the end of the day, in all of those things, God's grace will be quietly and powerfully at work. "
